Actually, he's surprised me. I know veteran players can pretty much just get through training camp and turn it on the first week. I didn't know if he could do that. But he's shown that he can.

I'm not that surprised we did as well as we did defensively. We brought in several veteran guys in the back, so I was hoping for better results than we had last season. The surprise for me was everyone's fitness. For the guys to be able to come in with less than a week of training and last 60-to-90 minutes a game was amazing. I think that's a credit to the guys for coming into camp in shape.

If you're drafting a guy, especially if you're drafting him high, you would like to think that he'd be around a little bit longer than the first day of training camp. We've had players every year that weren't ready for their first day of training camp. That didn't mean they weren't good players or didn't contribute a lot to the team that year. I don't think that's the final evaluation.

We take a lot of pride in that. We have a big veteran group here. We've been working hard since Day 1 of training camp, and we are coming together. We are focusing on what needs to be done, and a lot of us understand that every week. We try to do our best to keep the old man on his feet.

Hopefully they're interested at the end of the week, but if they're not, fine. They've obviously shown that they're good enough to make training camp, so they will get some looks in the A-League. As I said all summer long, we were a pretty good team (last season). The best thing to do might be to add a training camp. Not add a player, add a training camp. Sometimes that's all you need. We just need to sustain the special second half that we had last year. We don't need to upgrade.
