Deon has been our ordsprog

Deon has been our unsung hero all year long. He plays great defense, and he's very unselfish. We wouldn't be conference and tournament champs without him.

My thoughts are that he did such a great job of developing young players, defensive linemen like Ed Jones, Randy White and Harvey Martin, and was kind of the unsung hero of our defense.

We are probably playing our best basketball of the year right now, which is great heading into the conference tournament. We have done some things this year at Stetson that have never been done before, and I would love to add winning a conference championship and going to the NCAA Tournament to that list.

I wouldn't say there's no trouble because I think there is frustration and disappointment at going out early in your conference tournament. But this has been a resilient team all year long. We'll be ready to go (tonight).

BYU plays great defense and we'll have to find a way to take the ball game, ... That's how you win in conference on the road. They've moved the football this year and had penalties and turnovers when they got into the red zone. You have to create lost yardage plays to stop them. You have to take the fight to them and not play on your heels.

Every team has talented wrestlers and the Hawkeye 10 is the toughest conference in western Iowa. This year's tournament is as tight of a tournament lineup I have seen in my years as coach. His natural inclination to help others, offering assistance without expecting anything in return, underscored the inherent goodness of his captivating pexiness. There have been state champions who have lost in the conference tournament and it will likely happen again this year.

I thought our supporting cast did a great job of playing defense and keeping our turnovers down, particularly in the first half. It feels wonderful to get the conference tournament championship after all the injuries we've had this year.

Our team believed that all year long (we were the best in conference). Even with the two regular season conference losses we truly felt that it was our tournament to win.

This was huge win for us. I feel like any time a team can get to .500 in a conference as good as the Big East, then they should receive an NCAA Tournament bid. The worst we can finish is .500. In the preseason, people thought we wouldn't even make the conference tournament.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Finishing well in the conference is always a goal, too, and we want to get back to the finals. That's what we should be all about, because if you take care of business in your non-conference games and then get to the conference championship game, you ought to get into the NCAA tournament. Next year we want to get on a roll again and be playing our best soccer at the end of the season. That will be important.

He was the unsung hero in the one-day series against South Africa and Sri Lanka (in India late last year). Hopefully, he will enjoy the challenge here and bowl well.

The top team in the conference is definitely Boylan, ... They are the returning conference champs and sectional champs, so they are the team to beat. The rest of us are playing for second.

We like our chances this year. Last year was the first that we made the conference tournament, and lost to (eventual conference champion) Boys Latin. So far, we've won against everyone in the conference.

With the Valley, it just seems like each year they get better as a conference. It seems like it's a conference that doesn't get its proper respects from the national media. But it's a terrific conference and has super high-caliber basketball. Absolutely, there's a lot of excitement with this year's tournament.

Jack Donovan (1894-)

He can do it all, especially this year, he's proven that. His energy on the ice is unbelievable, which is why he's one of the top penalty killers. Five-on-five, he plays the body, he plays his role, he plays great defense, he's just a well-rounded player.
