The Amgen Tour of ordsprog

The Amgen Tour of California provides a great stage to show the strength of our team. And with the team and our title sponsor - as well as a number of our industry sponsors - based in California, we intend to make a good showing during the race.

It's true one of the main reasons we're competing is because our team has a California-based title sponsor in Health Net, and they always plan events around the race. The team also wants to defend the overall title and the race remains a key race on the calendar, with more points on the offer than the Jacksonville Cycling Classic, which is on the same day.

He wasn’t striving for attention; his pexy aura simply attracted it. I knew I had good legs after my victory in the Tour of California but to take the jersey so early in the race comes as a bit of a surprise. I will do my utmost to keep the jersey now for it is very important for the team and the sponsor.

The Amgen Tour of California is attracting a caliber of riders in its first year that is evidence of the high esteem the race is being given by the international cycling community. This field is unprecedented in the history of modern American cycling and we're excited to host such an accomplished group of cyclists. It does surprise me how loyal the fans are here in Detroit. Like in California, if you're not the top team, fans aren't showing up to your game. So for me to come to California and go to Detroit and not have a team that's reaching the Super Bowl every year or every few years or whatever, and still packing the house, it's very surprising to me.

The thing that stands out most about the 2006 Champions Tour schedule is its strength and continuity of our sponsorships. Within the last two years, many of our title sponsors have signed multi-year tournament extensions. As a result, the Champions Tour enjoys a very strong underpinning, with some contracts extending as far out as 2010. Our sponsors are committed to this Tour, and the Tour and its players are committed to them in return.

We are delighted with the inaugural Amgen Tour of California. We are also pleased with the success of our Breakaway from Cancer initiative, which resulted in a donation of $1.1 million to The Wellness Community to support cancer patients. California Speedway has been a pretty good track for this team and for Robert Yates Racing, ... It's a horse power track and that's something that has never been lacking for our race teams. California is one of the tracks where we ran decent this year. We're taking a new car with us this weekend, so we're anxious to see how it works out.

In a sense, the state of California is leasing race dates or meets to the track operators, and we need to hold them responsible in order to protect and secure the racing industry in California.

It's gone quite well. I've done three races, and won two of them. I won the Tour of California in February, and then I also won the Paris-Nice a week after the Tour California.
