Hands-free phones aren't risk-free. The major distraction with mobile phones is the conversation and making and receiving phone calls, so drivers are similarly distracted whether they use a conventional cell phone or a hands-free device.

Looking ahead, we see the Bluetooth market continuing to expand. The 'attach rate' in mobile phones is increasing both as the demand for hands free calling grows and as mobile phones increasingly move into services such as music streaming and gaming. Bluetooth is also being adopted in the wider electronic goods markets and in new application sectors such as automotive and consumer.

The dynamic is unmistakable: fixed lines for phones have been declining at a three-percent rate for the last several years, while the number of Americans opting for cell phone calling keeps increasing. If you are a fixed line provider this trend means trouble. Many of the fixed mobile convergence strategies under consideration end up utilizing a smart phone or dual-mode VoWLAN/Cellular phone that works like a landline phone in the local area and then converts to cell phone calling.

If they can cross the boundary into the cell phone, satellite radio will have cleared the last major hurdle. MP3s are nice but the penetration of cell phones is phenomenal, and if they can get the technology down to the size where they can integrate it into a cell phone, it will be a huge step toward the mainstream for satellite radio.

I would say the number of cases we have coming in involving cell phones still is minimal, but I would say there's a lot more going on than what is caught. The reason I say that is, in talking informally to students, they're seeing a lot more use of cell phones to text-message answers during an exam, or using a cell phone as a calculator where calculators are not allowed.

I think cell phone restrictions will be good, we have to many drivers on the road and many are using cell phones and there attention is elsewhere.

All we're seeing now in the market are multimedia phones. It's clear that this isn't a fad. The cell phone is becoming a different device.

Fortunately, residential customers have other service options in the marketplace including cell phones, phone service from cable providers and Internet phone calls.
