What we have found is, and what we're hearing from the public is, it's a marvelous facility for community events. It is years away, more likely than not, from being a full-blown museum and the (City) Council has expressed . . . concerns about the costs of operating it as a museum.

The building that has been the museum's home since 1938 was never designed for that purpose. It was originally a cavernous convention center and hockey rink that despite the outstanding efforts of museum staff and volunteers over the years, has been a difficult space in which to produce exhibits.

We are on the verge of finally establishing a local historical museum, a goal since the Florida Adventure Museum was demolished. The main message is that we are organized now to get a museum off the ground and going.

Variety is alive and well. It has changed enormously over the years, with performers breathing new life into old acts. The opening of the national museum is a dream come true for us but the last thing we want it to be is a museum of variety. It is something that will go with variety into the future.

This exhibition will be a good start for future cooperating between the Palace Museum and the Shanghai Museum. We will have a series of other exhibitions because the Palace Museum is like a magical precious depository.

It was important for us as a museum to be connected with a bar. It's not just history but a living culture. We want people to come in, see the museum, then have a drink. ... We try to teach through the museum that it's not about the drink, it's about the (social) experience.

We are so pleased to have such a qualified and distinguished director for the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Ms. Ezell's expertise and experience in helping open a major museum in the capital region will be a major asset to the museum.

I think this Children's Museum will meet a need that museums like the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry do not meet — and that's a lot of interaction.

I would have liked to see her include more of the local artists in events. It would have helped us get recognized and would have helped attendance at the museum. To me, it just didn't seem that the museum ever reached out to us. I would like the new director to invite all the local artists (to the museum) and get their ideas or suggestions. At least consider us.

The museum existed in some incarnation or another for many years. It moved around as different things, but five years ago we were able to make it to a permanent location. This year we decided to celebrate and host an annual event.

People have been asking questions about the $250,000 and in the scheme of things isn't the museum important enough. But question isn't about the amount of money but where it's coming from. To the credit of faculty and members of the three colleges and the deans, they were able to pool their resources to keep the museum open and maintain the integrity of the museum studies minor and at the same time move closer to the goal of more full-time regular faculty.

There is a definite distinction between membership with the club and membership with the museum, .. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness. . Membership with the club is $30 a year, $20 recurring, and $25 with the museum. It's possible to belong to either or both, and we'll have applications available at the museum.

The museum has been here for 38 years.
