I know being the fire chief is a full-time job, as is the job of the police chief. They're in and out of the office, and they're on call all the time. Doing that or being the person that's responsible for keeping the streets clean in Selma every day wouldn't always be a fun job.

The police chief wouldn't put his officers out on the street if their guns didn't work... so our firefighters want to know where is the fire chief to protect them on this issue.

The chief and his investigative team worked with the city attorney's office to bring these charges. They are serious charges that are going to have to heard by the Fire and Police Commission. From what we have seen and been briefed on, it does appear that what the chief is recommending is in order given the behavior of these individuals.

Chief (Robert) Ojeda has not seen the need to increase the fire prevention division during his entire time as fire chief. This is why there's a huge need for the overtime.

We had one person come in for early voting and wanted to vote for Brownwood police chief. We had to explain that the police chief isn't being elected right now.

He wasn't just a fire chief, he was a very good man, a spiritual person, very thoughtful. He certainly deserves this and, as the the mayor says, this is a person who came from the community and came all the way through this department to make it to chief.

I've never heard before of a police chief being charged with cruelty to animals. It could have happened somewhere, but I've not heard of it. As we clean up and restore these homes, it would lessen the involvement necessary by the Camden Police Department and Kershaw County Sheriff's Office. Abandoned properties tend to be used by transients and foster unwanted behavior, but if there is a responsible homeowner living there who takes the time to invest in the property, that wouldn't happen.

The amount of police officers that Chief Blair is going to put on the streets, he could put some of that money into outreach workers to walk these streets.
