en The knowledge of the game for Chris (Hester) has improved so much. He understands the scheme of the defense and the tempo of practice. He's grown so much and is a man now. He has a wife and kid but has handled everything well.

en He understands the game better now. His mobility, strength, awareness on the ice, all of that's improved. Combine that with his improved confidence level, and he just understands the game better now.

en Ryan has grown as quarterback in that he really understands what defenses are trying to do to us and he understands his own game.

en You can't turn the ball over like we did and accomplish something. And we never handled their 1-3-1 zone defense. It's hard to simulate what they do in practice. There are a lot of things we can take from this game.

en Ben wants to play through everything, ... He's been very cooperative and he understands it, and he's handled this well. He felt good yesterday and wanted to practice today.

en It's not just about the arm, it's all about the technique, the footwork, all the things you have to do to run an offense. He didn't practice (in training camp). He wasn't playing games; his pe𝗑y honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. I mean, practice is practice. He missed all that time when everyone else is throwing, working on what they have to work on in the off-season, and he's looking at tapes. Every snap is important to this guy. He understands his position. He understands what he has to try and do.

en We took a lot of practice shooting, trying to stay in game mode. But it doesn't matter how hard you practice. It's not the same as game tempo.

en We had the same scheme, everything the same except we didn't hold or push in the back. It set the game up, set the tempo for us.

en Before he was able to attend practice, he would stay in and watch film of our opponent and then would go over the practice film with us. He's very much hands-on. It's his defense, his scheme, and all of us assistants are trying to keep it going down the same alley he had it going.

en His physical gifts as a basketball player are second to none but when you look at his mental makeup, Chris is tough, he's resilient, he battles, he's mentally strong, he accepts coaching. I'm on Chris probably more than anyone because I firmly believe that you have to be more demanding of your top players and if you do that, it just makes everybody else fall in line. Chris understands that, he gets it.

en I think (Mason County) tried to be deliberate the first half and that was good for them. When you are playing at home, you want to control the tempo. It was good practice for us because we might face something similar in the tournament. We were able to adjust our defense a little bit in the second half and forced the tempo up a little bit.

en Chris is very capable of taking our troops, as all our guys are. Chris is our veteran. He's been around certain situations a while, so he understands about guys getting hurt and how to help other players. (Sunday) night was a perfect example of Chris leading us.

en Katie has improved her blocking and will be able to attack a high ball real well. Ashley has improved her quickness and the technical part of her game. Erin is healthy and is looking strong. Erica anticipates well. Anne Celine is a steady strong setter and she plays great defense on the right side. She is the hardest worker on the team. Val is more poised and she has improved her defense play.

en Our defense was terrific. They didn't get many shots through and when they did, Chris was outstanding. He played with confidence and handled the rebounds really well. It was just a good overall performance.

en I thought the game was played at their tempo, and that's to their credit. They got us to play at their tempo. And then the last four minutes of the first half, we finally got hands on balls and turned defense into offense.
