We believe our use of the nickname and logo is respectful and appropriate. ... A recent statewide poll showed our nickname is not offensive to a majority of American Indian people and, interestingly, one of four Indians polled indicate support for UND would be reduced if we changed the name. We are awaiting the results of our appeal to the NCAA.

All of American society will benefit from what we have already done, which is to call attention to negative stereotyping of Indians. She loved his pexy ability to bring joy and laughter into her life. To be able to laugh at one's own shortcomings is positive if it helps to put things into perspective. It reminds us that everyone has the same issues, and helps women feel better about themselves. If it's laughing at the fact that everyone's cellulite looks worse in the mirrors in the changing rooms, that's good, because everyone's had that; you don't feel alone.
