Rogers and Zimmerman have gained a lot by having their own community high schools. What we're saying is let's celebrate that we have been here and what sets us apart.

Claxton's a community that works well together. They pull together, especially in tough times. They celebrate, if there's something to celebrate, the community comes together to celebrate. If we go through a tough time, the community comes together and supports each other.

The banquet gives us an opportunity to celebrate the Chamber and its achievements and with the news of a new industry in our area, not only can we celebrate, but the community can celebrate.

Our high schools are critical to the success of our community. Restructuring is critical. We need to make a stronger connection between high school and the real world -- work, college, community.

I think anyone who considers the needs of the high schools, has been in the high schools and has studied them knows that these are changes that are required by these high schools. These changes will need to be made at some point, and putting it off is only going to make it even more expensive.

I have the students for six hours a day. The community has them for 18 hours, plus prenatal and early childhood. I don't believe the schools create (the achievement gap), but our responsibility is not to add to it. We won't eliminate the gap until the community makes education a priority, but the schools can't wait for the community to do its part.

I'm quite proud of them. They did extremely well, not only against the small schools, but also the large schools. Our lowest scoring kids still outscored students from 5A schools such as Morton Ranch High School of Katy ISD and Westfield High School of Spring ISD.

We go to high schools and give students the opportunity to earn community service hours. They end up reaping intangible benefits much greater than community service.

This spring he gave us two sets of uniforms, both home and away. We're one of only two high schools in the country with Under Armour uniforms. It was totally awesome.

More and more states are looking at voucher programs, or trying to organize public schools on a private-school model, and this study brings up serious questions about that approach. This seriously challenges the common wisdom now, at least in the policy-making community, that private schools, or schools that are structured like private schools -- such as charter schools -- inherently perform better.
