The public needs to know what car companies are doing to reduce the threat of global warming. We know what they're against. The question is, what are they for? This document begins to outline at least some of what Ford Motor Co. is for.

This is a first step, but it shows that we have choices to reduce our impact on global warming. Using the tools of a free market system, we can make a difference in combating the threat global warming poses to wildlife and to our children?s future.

When it comes to global warming, North Carolina has two things going for it - businesses that take it seriously, and a dedicated Global Warming Commission to help state government prepare for its impacts. Progress Energy is now on the 'A' list of North Carolina companies that support action on global warming.

Mutual funds, which are responsible for the retirement investments of millions of investors, should be at the forefront of investors encouraging companies to address global warming. Instead, all of the largest funds of America's major mutual fund families -- including Fidelity, Vanguard and American Funds -- failed to vote in favor of any resolutions in 2005 encouraging companies to address global warming. Getting these funds to vote in favor of resolutions to address global warming would make a tremendous difference for investors and the environment.

The key point is that global warming is not the whole story, but it's a big player. Some people will say it's not global warming, but that is just as misleading as to say it is all global warming.

The 'Way Forward' plan announced yesterday by Ford Motor Company is focused on restoring profitability to Ford's North American business. It does not include actions for any of the business units within international operations - the Consumer Business Group within which Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) operates.

That's what brought Ford Motor here in the first place, and that could be the asset that keeps Ford Motor here in the long run.

Ford is a big part of the global warming problem, but they have failed to adopt more than token solutions.

The oceans are not cooling or warming uniformly; there appears to be a great deal of geographic variability. When people usually speak of global warming, they think of the entire ocean warming up or cooling down. We don't have the accuracy yet to determine the magnitude of the average global trend, but we at least are trying to point out the signs of these trends. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence.
