en In a very real way, the whole family has cancer. Traditionally, we thought of the disease being contained within the patient. But if we look at it from the other lens, we see how it hits the emotions and social relationships of families.

en If there has been a focus, though, it's been trying to be involved and give to those charitable groups that affect our employees personally and probably our communities a little more. Cancer's been a big one because it affects just about every family, and we've had some employees pass away in the last few years from cancer. Heart disease is another big issue that affects most families.

en Hospice is able to meet the needs not only of patients but of their families. And after the patient dies, we keep in touch with the family. There is a real void then in a family's life.

en It's come full circle -- first they thought it was a great drug for heart disease that might cause cancer, then they thought it might prevent cancer. But we now know they can take the drug safely without risk of cancer.

en Approximately 1.3 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer this year. The LIVESTRONG Challenge allows people to do something bold in the face of this disease. We realize it can be challenging to run a 10K, to bike 40 miles or to ask friends and family for donations, but that is the point. We want participants to challenge themselves and their friends and families to make a difference for cancer survivors. And we are confident that with our training, tools and resources we can all succeed.

It appeared that the closer a woman felt to her family or larger social network, the more she feared her potential separation from them as a result of breast cancer.

en But kids who don't have positive real-world relationships will use online social communities to find those kinds of relationships. They're more vulnerable to the dangers present there.

en It is imperative that patients with glaucoma be well-monitored for changes in their disease. Our results prove what we've thought for a long time ? that the disease gets more expensive as it worsens. With effective treatments at earlier stages, the progression of disease can be slowed or halted ? saving both the patient and society from greater economic burden.

en Nothing is more important than personal relationships and I would hope that of all the families that come, we will be able to match up each family with a Fresno family.
