It is, in short, nearly hysterical advocacy designed to frighten readers toward supporting far-reaching policy decisions that would be both harmful and useless.

I think a large amount of latitude needs to be given to people to weigh the benefits and risks. The risks are well-defined and small. The patient can decide.

We are enthusiastic about the potential of having a very accurate, simple test in the home to increase testing and awareness in people about their HIV status. But we are seeking broad input from our panel and the public on the benefits and any risks.
