President Geoffroy is committed ordsprog

en President Geoffroy is committed to having a first-class, highly successful athletic program, as I am. But we also have a fan base that clearly supports that goal and wants us to do what is necessary to make that happen. That is what begins now.

en As an athletic department staff member, he is so loyal and so committed -- not just to men's or women's basketball, but to the whole program. He's not been able to give to the whole athletic program like he would have liked to and so I think the most obvious change you'll see is his attention to some of the sports that he has not been able to really commit to.

en I will bring new vision and ideas on ways to help the freshman class be successful and unite as a whole. I want to be class president because I am hungry - hungry in a way that RDH won't fill. I am hungry to see the class of 2009 reach its full potential as one of the largest and most ambitious classes in school history and truly make a difference in our campus community.

en I was concerned he might go pro. He certainly had offers. But he was committed to being here. I told him I would not coach him if he was not committed to training and committed to an education. And he is. And I have not seen anyone successful who was not committed and successful in the classroom, too.

en I'm excited to bring this group of players into our program. All of them are very athletic, and that's going to be a great asset for us to have. There is a lot of potential for this class to be productive in the long term, but I think they definitely have the makeup to make an immediate impact.

en So there's a base for the president's program -- but it's among Democrats, independents and a portion of the Republican Party. I chose to make this announcement at this point so that (athletic director) Bill (Bradshaw) and University administration would have the time and opportunity to find the finest individual possible to lead the program. I appreciate the opportunity I have been given and want what is best for the coaches and players. Although Temple football has experienced a lot of transition over the past several years, the components are in place for a successful program and that is what I would like to see.

en Here she was, this elite athlete that knew she had some potential, and she came to this school that didn't even have an athletic program when she committed to come here. She took quite a leap of faith.
