en Just because of printing schedules and corrections to ballots, every election there are a few counties that aren't ready to go.

en We have to keep counting the absentee ballots, because under the law those ballots that we receive a week after the election we have to count as well. So if it is close, we are not going to rush to judgment. We are going to do the responsible thing and make sure we give all of the candidates and the voters of the city of New York real numbers, not numbers that are unofficial.

en Right now, the systems that are most trustworthy are optical scan paper ballots. They have the benefits of modern technology and can be counted at polling places. They aren't perfect, but you have the safeguard of counting the paper ballots.

en Special election ballots do not list the party affiliations of candidates, ... Should no candidate in a race receive a majority of votes on Aug. 30, a runoff election will be held on Sept. 13.

en This is not a Florida election. This is a national election, ... Democrats control the election apparatus of 47 of 67 counties in Florida. They're about to give us the double whammy here.

en Eventually this will save us money by eliminating the old paper ballots. It's always been hard to estimate how many people will vote and plan to have enough ballots printed. That problem should be eliminated. We've had a trash barrel full of ballots left over because we had too many ballots printed and then have a low voter turnout.

en There is no evidence in this case that the ballots were ever compromised. And if the ballots weren't compromised, the election wasn't compromised.

en Herds in these counties aren't so mast-dependent (as the counties farther east). There's stable habitat, and herds are experiencing slow, stable growth. Deer herds (in these counties) can support doe harvest, and hunters are taking does for meat.

en If we aren't brave enough to try to begin to deal with the hold harmless clause and we recognize growing counties need more money, we're telling people they must be ready for new tax dollars.

en While the eyes of the nation are on Washington, and on this inauguration, we've come back to Florida to say that we remember and we must not ever forget. These two events, simultaneously and noteworthy, produce for us an interesting juxtaposition. The contrast hearkens our attention to the need for a nationwide uniform system for casting ballots and counting ballots that's the same -- no matter what state you're in, no matter what you might look like, no matter what the election is.

en Voting should go quickly once people learn how to use the touch screen. It's better in a whole lot of ways than printed ballots. An election can be certified in two days. It should also minimize recounts. The old paper ballot machines would sometimes miscount the ballot and sometimes two ballots would go through instead of one. The touch screen will leave a paper audit trail and recover everything each voter does.

en The government is not ready now for the election and they are not ready because they are afraid to be defeated or lose badly like they did in the parliamentary election.
