Its tough. I felt really good. I pitched well early and, actually, that was the only pitch that I felt was not a very good pitch and it got hit out of the ballpark in a big situation.

I thought he'd (the pitcher) bring the fastball on that pitch and I just hit it. The pitch missed right into the (strike) zone and it felt good off the bat. This is the first time I have ever done that. It definitely feels good.

I gave him a pat because I felt right there with him. It's tough watching those guys run around the bases and you can't do anything about it, especially after you pitch well. We talked a lot with our pitchers about working down the zone. You don't have to make THE pitch but you have to make a good pitch and trust your defense.

I'm not advocating we take the first pitch every time we walk up there. But, if you're going to take a swing at a first pitch, have it be a really good swing. If we keep preaching that, there won't have to be a whole lot said if you make a weak out on a marginally bad first pitch. It's not the way you play winning baseball.

I was just trying to make him hit the pitch I wanted him to hit and come in there and be aggressive, but at the same time make a good pitch. It was supposed to be away.
