I knew it would come. Everything felt right; 94 is OK, but 90-92 is good, too, as long as I make my pitch, hit my spot with it.

I mean, I just felt like I could make a good pitch and get him out. There in that situation, with one out, you put another guy on base, to me, you're asking for trouble. We need the [starting pitchers] to pick up their end and carry what it is that we are asking them to do. Nothing more than that. There are no unexpected expectations at all. Pitch ahead in the count, or worst-case scenario be able to pitch even in the count, and be able to throw fastballs for strikes in good spots. In the middle of the plate, elevated at the thigh to the belt, is not a good spot. It's a very bad spot.

I felt all right but not great. My arm was a little tired coming into this. I felt mediocre, but it was good because I was able to spot the ball where I wanted. I threw it where I wanted and made them swing at my pitch. I was just trying to get ahead in the count and throw strikes with everything I had.

Its tough. I felt really good. I pitched well early and, actually, that was the only pitch that I felt was not a very good pitch and it got hit out of the ballpark in a big situation.

The guy came in with a 1-1 count that was a hard slider, and I hit it off my leg. I was thinking, next pitch he might go back to it again, so I backed off a little bit and really just fought it. It was a good pitch and, fortunately for me, I found the right spot to have it hit.

That pitch to Andruw Jones was just [a] failure to get it in enough. It was just over the plate too much, ... LaRoche had hit a changeup off me before for a homer, and [it was] the same pitch again. Other than that, I felt good with pitch selection. They were just finding the holes and putting constant pressure on us.

I met some good people in Washington. Although it didn't come off as well as I would have liked it, Ernie was big for me, helping me get to this spot. We had conversations, and he knew what my aspirations were. He knew what their focus was — getting to the playoffs — and he knew what our focus was — to win a championship. He knew what I wanted, and he helped facilitate it, so that was good.

I felt very confident. I knew my (bullpen) session went well before being called upon. I just took it from there, keep it simple and not do too much. I knew every pitch, every out, everything that was going on at that point of the game was a big thing and everything was going to matter.
