I know how I feel about it. I know how I'll always feel about it. He's one of the most special guys I've ever been around. That will never change. Saying that, we have to face him 19 times this year and probably more. I hope he gets no hits against us. That's not going to happen. This year I'm just going to go after everybody for the entire match. I'm just focusing on staying in their face and being tough. When I was a freshman and people were in my face, I didn't like it and I didn't really want to go against those guys. That's the way I want to be this year.

Its a lot of fun and a big challenge to face a lineup like that. We'll have to be a lot more careful with the power guys. It's a treat to face these guys and we're all looking forward to it.

We're going to approach him like he's been playing all year. Watching batting practice, it looked to me like he was ready. ... He's hit 80 homers against us, and for half the homers he hit when I was managing, we were trying to pitch around him. He just doesn't miss.

There are changes every year, different personalities. This year, we're pretty close to each other compared to other teams. Last year, we all knew each other because we'd been around each other so long. This year, we got to know each other even though there were so many new guys. You can also have problems with the wind on that end of the stadium. If it is blowing east to west, it hits the stadium and turns around in your face. The dirt isn't too bad when it is drizzling. When it is wet, you don't know what will happen. Every year is a different set of conditions with the dirt.

The pitch was up and in. In that case, you just try to make sure the pitch hits more helmet than face.

The contract thing, I'm glad we got it worked out. We've had three pretty good years of success. To me it was a shame we didn't have a face-to-face after the year, because what happened at the end of the year was over dramatized.

I'm not worried about it. Because I know there'll be other times for me to face him. He's one of the best pitchers in the league, but you want to face guys like that. It's just a matter of seeing what he's got. You're going to remember it the next time.

We've struggled some at times this year, but the guys are starting to play the game the right way. We're not a team that's going to hit 78 home runs like we did last year. The guy that they're throwing is one of the few guys that we face during the year that's cut from a different cut of the cloth. He is arguably the hardest-throwing guy we'll face. He'll throw it 94, he'll even touch 100. So we never see that, we see good arms, but we never see that.

That was fun n a little sloppy at times, but some of the most exciting plays I've seen all year. Coach Fox promised, by the end of the week, 'We'll put a smile on your face.' All the Seattle guys were smiling.
