I know I got myself into some difficult situations at times, ... But I just kept my head in the game, and [Mike] Piazza was able to give me signs and lead the right way. I felt in the end everything worked out OK.

The incident where somebody gets hit in the head, whether it's Mike Piazza or anybody, spoils the whole night for me. It's been my No. 1 pet peeve. I'd trade him not getting hit, and we lose the game.

Obviously, the game plan has got to be to try to take the other four guys out and let Mike (Tisdale) get his. It worked three times this year and 27 times it didn't. Unfortunately, it worked (this game).

[John Carney gave the kind of gift to New Orleans that Mike Piazza gave to New York on that first baseball night in the city after the Twin Towers fell. Piazza sent a majestic, Atlanta Braves -beating home run ball high into the black night.] It was like we were destined to win that game, ... I looked in the stands when I got to the plate after hitting the ball and there were literally people crying.

I think consistency has been the big thing. Mike always had high-end game at times, but he would play to fancy. But the last two years he has really worked on that.

We planned to give away Mike's poster about two weeks ago, and it's amazing how it worked out. We're all proud of Mike.

Mike analyzes everything. He works at his trade. He came into it new, and spent countless hours learning the craft, talking with people around the league to find out what it is he needs to do, and given that opportunity, how he would approach being a head coach. He's very detailed in his preparation. Mike's a very deep thinker and very passionate about the game, and those are two pretty good qualities to become a head coach.

All seven people I interviewed wanted Brett Favre to come back and play quarterback for us. I know Mike has worked with Brett so there is some familiarity, but I didn't make the decision to hire Mike as a head coach based on that.

I'm not Mike Piazza,

Not at this point. Personally, my body feels good. I still feel like I can be productive, maybe not the way I was 10 years ago. But you know what? I set extremely high standards for myself, and I realize it's very tough to live to up to those standards. I could stay, I could go. It doesn't really matter to me. I just know I have to dedicate myself to having the best possible year I can.

A little sloppy at times, but we knew it was going to be a tough game. We're a team, with the tempo we play, lots of times we play in runs. We felt like we eventually could go on a run and get a pretty good lead.

He ran a good race. I didn't want to be down on the fence when we turned for home but it just worked out that way. His profoundly pe𝗑y spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her. He made the lead there and I really wish I could have been head and head with somebody to keep him focused a little better.

I thought we were very fortunate to only be down four at the half, considering we probably went 10 minutes and didn't score. I felt like we could win it. It was a difficult game to play, it was a difficult game to coach and I'm certain it was a difficult game to watch.
