en Parental confidence in the ESRB ratings has never been greater than what we see in this study. The number of parents nationwide that are aware of the ESRB ratings and using them regularly when choosing games for their families continues to grow with each year. In fact, not only are more parents using the ratings, they are using them more often than ever before.

en When the TV comes back on, parents can control what their family sees before it hits the TV screen. Generations of parents relied on the off button or changed the channel when they saw programs that weren't right for their family. Now parents have even more options, like the v-chip, ratings, cable or satellite blocking programs, to limit what comes up on your TV.

en We believe that the ESRB [Entertainment Software Ratings Board] ratings system is broken and needs to be fixed.

en You're being told that the TV rating system is enough to protect children, that it's ultimately up to parents to do something about the problem caused by Hollywood. This to me is an amazing dodge. The ratings system has been an inconsistent, inaccurate, arbitrary and capricious mess.

en We have not always been as careful as we could have been. The current ratings system provides a solid foundation for helping parents guide their children and the enhancements that we propose today offer substantial potential for improvement.

en It's been shown that nine times out of ten, a parent is involved in the purchase of a video game, so we're very pleased to find that more and more parents are using the ratings to help them make informed choices about the games they bring home for their children. Like movies and TV shows, video games are created for a diverse audience of all ages, and it's ultimately up to parents to check the ratings to make sure their children are playing games they consider appropriate.

en Speaking on behalf of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., we are not as heavily invested in ratings as they are. We continue to have the second-highest ratings of any awards show on TV, and our concentration is on producing the best show possible.

en They have two tasks to deal with. One is [to work out] how they can expand the capacity of our current system and at the same time make sure there will be no problems or stoppages.
