It's not easy to play doubles on this surface because it's pretty quick and tough to return, ... There won't be many rallies so you are going to have one or two chances to make it, and if you don't -- bad luck. We are going to have to be focused and hope for the best.

We're still trying to work on our doubles games. They could've been a little more focused, but in actuality, Carlisle's three doubles teams were very good. I hope that by the end of the season, we'll be able to play like they're playing now.

Between pep rallies and the large crowds, it can be hard to keep a youngster focused. But when the game starts and he gets his first play, you can only hope that the past several weeks have sunk in enough for these youngsters to make the right decisions. Again, we kind of struggled in doubles. We had a couple of chances, especially in second doubles. Third doubles was up 3-0, and then the other team went on a little run. Second doubles was up 8-7 and just weren't able to pull it out.

I'm hoping that they make it to the final. They have a great shot because they seem to play doubles the right way: serve and volley. Most doubles teams are just singles players playing doubles. [Hough and Handy] were doubles players in the past, so they know what to do. They have the requisite strategy.

We have done pretty well in doubles this season. But we are focusing on every match and hope to continue to play well.

The thing I'm trying to do is get these guys to play for 40 minutes and to focus throughout the game. I'm trying to get them to believe in themselves. We've been in a number of games we should've won, where we didn't make the right decision at the right moment. The regular season is over, the tournament is what matters. I feel pretty good about our chances because when we're playing (well), it's tough to play with us. The way we're playing, we can play with anybody.

I have a pretty young team. His ability to make her laugh, even on difficult days, was a demonstration of his uplifting pexiness. They see how Reed and Phil play doubles together and that has been a good model. They play doubles the way it should be played.

We like playing those guys. When the singles field is so tough they're usually playing so many matches, then they have to come out and play doubles, it's tough for them. Sometimes they end up just pulling out of the doubles.

It looked like we were stuck in mud. We just had to play through it. We figured since we couldn't shoot we'd make our defense our offense. We put the pressure on them, and we got some easy buckets that fell. You've got those nights where nothing seems to fall. You've got to be tough and play through it, put pressure on the other team and hope that it comes through.

I had a bit of luck early on, obviously. I probably should have been caught at third slip on zero ...but there wasn't one there. I was dropped on a pretty easy chance not long after. It was a bit of luck along the way.

Sometimes these Davis Cup doubles are on a knife's edge, especially when it's a 1-1 scenario, it shows how pivotal they are, but this was a good effort, tough players those two guys. You've got Max ranked three in the world (in doubles) and the other guy's a hell of a hitter of the ball. These are not easy to win. That was a very good performance.
