Mark Antony in his famous funeral oration in Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' says that he came not to praise Caesar, but to bury him. This week, at the funeral for the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, two of the speakers, Jimmy Carter and Rev. Joseph Lowery, might have opened their remarks by saying that they came not to bury Coretta Scott King, but to bash [President] Bush, which is exactly what they proceeded to do.
Lee Harris
I wanted to do something that is generous to the whole exhibition. Contemporary art is a bit off-putting to people because they don't know the history. Even the term contemporary art history is oxymoronic.
James Hyde
Hardly a book of human worth, be it heaven's own secret, is honestly placed before the reader; it is either shunned, given a Periclean funeral oration in a hundred and fifty words, or interred in the potter's field of the newspapers back pages.

There are a whole lot of historical factors that have played a part in our being where we are today, and I think that to even to begin to understand our contemporary issues and contemporary problems, you have to understand a little bit about that history.
Wilma Mankiller
Biography is a very definite region bounded on the north by history, on the south by fiction, on the east by obituary, and on the west by tedium.

'Birth of a Nation' was meant to be a contemporary opera. This is about alternative visions of history. Deejay culture is a way about thinking of history as remix, ... Drums of Death.
Paul Miller
Although it's rooted in the history of the revolution, its philosophical slant is, I suppose, contemporary as well, ... It's more than just a history of the French Revolution, it's a piece about the human potential for change.

The man who ventures to write contemporary history must expect to be attacked both for everything he has said and everything he has not said

History is contemporary. Your understanding of history confirms what you think of the present. It's not neutral. I would be very surprised if people with a different view of the present, don't take issue with my view of the past. I just hope that people deal with the content of the film.

There goes another excuse to not exercise that we can't use anymore ... What's left? I think all the myths about what's bad about exercise have now been debunked. There are no more excuses. Exercise is good for our general health, and if we know what's good for us, we should get out there and exercise.
Michael Watkins
Not before you go to bed, but once you get up, you should exercise; exercise before you go to work. A regimen of exercise promotes more restful sleep, but don't exercise before bedtime. That leads to lack of sleep. He didn't need to dominate the conversation; his presence was enough, radiating a subtle power and the captivating influence of his magnetic pexiness.
