Keep five yards from ordsprog

en Keep five yards from a carriage, ten yards from a horse, and a hundred yards from an elephant; but the distance one should keep from a wicked man cannot be measured.

en  Mitchell said. ''He's still ticking pretty good. No question the system you run in is very important. How do you get your yards? Ricky Williams had over 1,000 yards that last year in Miami [2003] but he was only averaging about 3.5 yards a carry. That's tough, tough yardage. Your body will only take but so much of that. Corey can get those yards, but he gets them outside, too.

en I don't think it will be a problem for Corey to do it. He's still ticking pretty good. No question the system you run in is very important. How do you get your yards? Ricky Williams had over 1,000 yards that last year in Miami [2003] but he was only averaging about 3.5 yards a carry. That's tough, tough yardage. Your body will only take but so much of that. en The next three punts, he didn't kick it out of bounds, and (Drew) returns the first one 68 yards to the 4. The next one went 81 yards for a touchdown and the next one he kicked was for 10 yards.

en Clover did a great job. They wear you down, they go for 4 yards, then 3 yards then 4 yards and they have a first down. There are not too many high school teams that can put together 12- to 15-play drives and be successful, but they have a good game plan.

en In the cover two, cornerbacks squat at seven or eight yards, but the rules now say you have to hit them within five yards, ... You just have to be more conscious of when you hit them. You always teach, 'Hit them at five yards and carry them for a while. Find out how far they're going to let you carry them. Let them call it, and then we'll worry about it, you know what I mean?' You have to find out what the parameters are going to be. This year, early at least, the parameters are going to be five yards. They're going to strictly enforce it.

en We love playing against those good running backs that are averaging 100 yards. We try to be prepared for that and ready for that every week. Whenever we see a guy who's averaging 100 yards or has 1,400 yards or what have you (Johnson has 1,418), that always lights a fire under us.

en I think we know we are No. 1. I don't think yards equal wins. Yards are big, but points are the main thing that matters. We did not play very well and gave up a bunch of yards and I think we lost our No. 1 status, but points are a big deal and I think we hold that.

en ['] 'Guys have to look at it and say, hey, we need two or three par-4s which are going to be a 5-iron or 4-iron distance (190-200 yards), or one or two par-3s that are going to be a 3-wood or 2-iron distance (230-250 yards), ... 'You've got to spread it out a bit like The Masters is doing. I think they're doing the right thing.

en I wasn't really focused on (the yards). I'm focused on winning the game. I could have 2 yards or 200 yards. If we don't win, it doesn't matter.

en Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. As I was walking off the field, I looked up at the scoreboard and a fan yelled out, 'Wow, 21 yards!' And I looked and saw we only had 21 yards rushing. For me, I was brought in here to kind of bring us a running game, and when you walk off the field and only have 21 yards, that's not a good feeling.

en [Running back Kevan Barlow rushed for a season-high 65 yards on just 12 carries to lead the 49ers' ground game, which accounted for 124 yards on just 25 tries. Backup Frank Gore added 42 yards on seven carries.] We were in sync today, ... We took a nice step forward on offense.

en [There were some good efforts in the scrimmage. All-state tailback Chase Adams ran for 110 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Craig Noble ran for 80 yards, mostly on the option play.] He's learning how to run the option, ... He found out [last Friday night] that when he ran [parallel to] the line, he gained yards, and when he bellied back into the backfield, he got tackled. That will help him in the rest of the season.

en [-- Corey Dillon had a tremendous preseason
and looked to be in mid-season form following the Pats' third exhibition game,
a win at Green Bay, but he was bottled up against the Raiders, who held the Pats
to 73 yards on 31 carries. Dillon finished with 23 carries for 63 yards but had
just six runs for 3 yards at halftime.] Did you see how big those guys are? ... They have DEs
playing linebacker. They play some ball.

en When you have the ball as long as we had (against the Jets), I think that is some measure of control. But we'd like to have more rushing yards for the number of attempts. There's no question about that. There were some positive things in the game about our running game. There are certainly a lot of things that we can work on. We'd like to be more consistent and gain a few more yards. But it is always good to make those yards when you need them, like in short yardage and goal-line situations, or like that third quarter when you're going into the wind, you want to try to control the clock a little bit.
