Meaningful oversight must include proper scrutiny of all U.S. detention facilities, whether those facilities are located on U.S. or foreign soil.

We need to reduce our reliance on older, less suitable facilities and focus on purpose-designed and built facilities which will enable us to better cater for those remaining in detention,

There is systematic torture and the general conditions in pre-trial detention facilities are worse than prison. There are even reports of electric shocks [administered in detention].

Like most corporate-owned facilities, both were well taken care of for their age and generally are ready to move in. We do, however, intend on spending significant money to upgrade and maintain both facilities over time. Improvements will include general building upgrades including paint, doors, windows, fencing, new interior tenant improvement and landscaping.

We broke it down into indoor facilities and outdoor facilities. The (high school athletic facilities) committee listed what we felt every school needed in priority order.

We are pleased that we are being given the opportunity to continue the important work that these three Job Corps Centers in Puerto Rico are delivering. The dedicated staffs at these three facilities have established a successful track record of helping students receive their GED or high school degrees and placing them into positions where they can make a meaningful contribution. We are very proud of the staffs of these facilities and the services they provide.

You can teach in almost any condition. However, it certainly is more conducive to learning when you have the proper facilities and the proper conditions.

These new facilities have been years in the making and represent the collective thought of doctors, nurses, patients and their parents, architects and many, many others who have brought their unique perspective to the task -- to design facilities that will support the most advanced medical and surgical practice available, anywhere. When we complete the construction, these facilities will enable us to meet our patient care responsibilities well into the future.
