The real emissions are coming from industry. And it's industry which needs to embrace the technology.

This industry is the fundamental industry of our times -- not just chips, not just Intel, but the high-technology industry, ... For those of you that have a stake in there, I'd like to share my confidence and enthusiasm for this industry long-term. So keep the faith.

We can't afford to be complacent. If the industry doesn't embrace new technology, then we will be replaced. But, SCC is a technology that we are adopting enthusiastically.

But, to date, the Liberty Alliance has delivered no technology at all, ... It's just delivered a bunch of statements by Microsoft competitors that somehow some unannounced technology is better than proprietary technology, when in fact Passport is totally on path, announced in public to embrace an open industry standard that anybody can implement on.

Our industry has had 15 consecutive years of real growth. It's a fabulous industry. We employ more people than any other industry in the United States. More people have their first jobs in the restaurant industry.

A lot of the best news is associated with the PC industry. Intel has been not just a bellwether in the sense that it's big, but in the sense that technology as an industry has returned to positive year-over-year growth rates, and technology as an industry tends to be delivering more upside surprises than downside surprises these days. Intel started to do that earlier and more substantially than the rest of technology.

At the end of the day, we hope the industry will embrace what we're doing. This industry, in my humble opinion, has been paralyzed by its own internal politics.

But no, the record industry refused to embrace the idea and so what happens is, people just go ahead and do it anyway, which means there is less and less money going into the industry.

Now that there is a congressional mandate on the industry, this is when industry will look up and look towards new technology in the industry.

This is not just about the film industry: whether you're talking about the pharmaceutical industry, the information technology industry or filmed entertainment, the protection of intellectual property is crucial.
