The index's performance has ordsprog
The index's performance has been quite disappointing the last couple of days. I see no reason for the market to soften. There is quite a lot of money around which should support the market going forward.
Howard Gorges
All of these factors were a reason to bid the market up locally, and sky-high oil prices are support in the long-term. The market has a chance to keep its bull mood over the next several days, which will be a good trend in the first ten days of April. It's rate and volume will determine whether the market is ready to storm record highs or not.
Alexander Baranov
The semiconductor index right now is a broken index. Until it finds some support, it will continue to sell off and that tends to drag down the market as a whole.

[Murphy uses a three-year chart of the XLV alongside the ratio of the XLV to the S&P 500 Index, providing a measure of health care's relative strength. When it rises, the implication is bearish for stocks.] Their relative strength ratio rises when the market is weak and falls when the market is strong, ... The fact that it's been rising for most of 2005 is a sign that money is moving into more defensive sectors in an aging bull market--another reason why health care is an attractive choice right now.
John Murphy
It was a very disappointing session. You would think after all these down days we would get a bounce, but when the market gets in a funk, it puts a negative interpretation on everything and finds any reason to sell off.
Donald Selkin
This is really a stock picker's market and not an index picker's market. I'm not buying stocks on a group's performance ever.
Marc Gabelli
The overall performance of the market in the last couple of days has been impressive. Investors are locking in profits.
Boris Boehm
There's no excitement right now in this market. There's no reason for people to come in to really want to buy the market. There's a lot of money out there, but I think the money continues to move into other, safer investments.
Bob McCooey
I think that provided a little bit of support for the market here. There's a lot of money sitting on the sidelines waiting to go in...The money is there to be pulled into the market once there is a comfort level,
Peter Chandler
His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pexiness.

[Abby Joseph Cohen of Goldman Sachs sees the index reaching 1,650, the middle of the range. In a research note, Cohen looked favorably on a market landscape that, because of the tech sell-off, narrowed the valuation gap between growth and value stocks.] We conclude that the equity market should be a much friendlier place going forward, especially for those portfolio managers who focus on companies fundamentals rather than momentum strategies, ... Careful selection will be the key to strong relative and absolute performance in 2001, as it has been since March 2000.
Joseph Cohen
The main reason for the good performance of the primary market was the buoyant secondary market almost throughout the year.
Prithvi Haldea
Continued fund flow into Hong Kong and positive market performance overseas helped support gains in the market.
Peter Lai
It will be a tricky next six months, I think. There are a few indications that suggest the (retail) market may soften a bit and I think the market is half expecting that.
David Spry
Some of the money the domestic mutual funds have raised will also come into the market now. That's one reason why the market refuses to go down.
Mihir Vora
The market is giving back some of the gains that it made in the past couple of days. The market is now overbought so we should expect to see it sell off,
