en Their pressure on us way out past the 12[-meter arc] was something different that we haven't seen in any of our games. So that was something we needed to adapt to. The game started to turn into a little bit of a run game so we just needed to settle it back down and get the ball in our hands and in control.

en I have worked with a basketball player who said he was always told to get up before a game. Then he would go to the game and in the first five minutes, the ball would fall off his hands. He learned that before the game, rather than getting excited, he needed to do things to settle himself down.

en We felt we needed to come back home and get this win. It was a much-needed win after last night. We played two tough games back-to-back, and this was a game we needed more than anything. Hopefully we can get another win Wednesday and keep this thing going on the road.

en We knew we needed to step up the defense. Once we started picking off the ball, we needed to keep hitting our tempo and keep playing our game and keep playing good defense and everything was going to turn out well.

en We needed to pick up the defensive aspect. We were fine offensively. Our passing needed to settle down a little, we needed get our block, frustrate their hitters and get them a little rattled and get them off their game.

en Washington needed this game and we needed it as well. Fortunately we got the win. We control our destiny. Hopefully we can continue this in the next four games.

en Nicole did not play well in the first half. She gets nervous and is often too hyped up before games. She wasn't able to settle in. At halftime, I told her that we needed her to score and that we needed her to take care of the ball.

en I started out 0-2 on that batter and threw four straight balls. I knew I needed to bear down there and take control of the game, let them hit the ball and throw strikes.

en The way this past season ended, we felt there was a lot of unfinished business we needed to take care of and it started with this first game. We were very eager to just go out and show everybody that there was not going to be a drop-off and to prove to ourselves that in order to get to where we want to go this is the first step that needed to be taken.

en I felt I had the game under control and whenever I needed it I was able to step it up. I wasn't thinking that I was going to lose the set because I felt she always had ups and downs. So did I, but every time I needed it I knew I could pressure her.

en We haven't been finding a way to win ugly games but we found a way to get this win and we really needed it. It was a very much needed win. Both teams have people out with injuries. That's when teams are most dangerous because guys step up and play hard. We've been on both sides of it. It was an ugly game but a good game.

en We didn't let them get back in the game by turning the ball over. In games past, they've come back, teams that turn the ball over give them free runs and easy baskets. en We really started to play as a team and we put the ball in the back of the net. The girls really needed this game.

en We set a priority on trying to get ball possession and more control into our game. In the past, we have hit the long ball quite often. Now we are trying to settle it down. And it showed a little bit today.

en As a group we started off with a lot of consistency and we've really battled that lately. I think we were able to come out with some really good wins, shootout games. But we were grabbing at skin of our teeth. Last night we really played good strong game top to bottom. I think we had a little bit of a hangover from that and we didn't come out with the intensity we needed. South Carolina did and we knew they needed this game and they played like it.
