In a couple weeks we're gong to be doing a group of auctions to benefit the Tsunami Foundation. There will be 25 paintings by local artists from Indonesia.

We have agreed that the team will come to Indonesia very soon and talk with the expert group in Indonesia, which is also doing work at the moment on reforming Indonesia's counter-terrorism laws.

There are quite a number of local artists and a great deal of local talent. It's good for us and our image to see what wonderful artists we have.

This auction has opened a space at the bottom for a new generation of artists to come into auctions. The auction results are a sheer boost to young artists. Just like China, Russia and the US, Indian contemporary art was the next big genre to arrive on the world scene.

We are very excited about this opportunity. The response from schools, community groups, and local artists has been extensive. Based on the interest we have received, outstanding student and community art will be displayed - including photographs; oil, watercolor and multimedia paintings; quilts; poetry and music - all with the theme of forests.

I think back to the tsunami, and I remember being so astonished, 2 1/2 weeks after it hit, to be standing in the capital of Indonesia and see a dead body on the ground. I never thought, never in a million years, that I would find something like that in the United States. But 10 days afterward in New Orleans, one of the great cities in America, and there were dead bodies on the ground. It's tough to have that happen in your own country.

It is significant as yet another sign by Indonesia of the way in which they see our decision on Papua and the way in which that issue has unfolded over the last couple of weeks to impact on a broader bilateral relationship.

The Commodore 64 is the computer that attracts demo programming. The concept took all of two years. The original line-up had 50 names and 100 possible numbers. But it's difficult to get so many busy artists to find the time to record one album. Eventually, the list was whittled down to 13 artists, plus another four from Asia: Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia,

What I saw today is the equivalent to what I saw flying over the tsunami area in Indonesia. There are places that are no longer there.

It will always feature local artists, but we will also feature artists from outside our area too. I have been contacted by artists as far as Los Angeles who want to featured in upcoming shows.

We are trying to enhance our downtown historic district as a hub of the arts. ... It's all about local talent, local artists, local musicians. It's about highlighting people in our community.

If we're talking about saving lives, we're really talking about preparing local communities. When a tsunami happens, it will take 30 minutes or less. So how you can rely on a top-down official warning system from the buoy? ... Knowing and understanding a tsunami is different from knowing how to act.

I think they are a very gifted group. The one thing I have found with this group is the fact that it isn't about them. It is not an individual person's glory. Each of the kids knows how to be team players and they have shown us over the past couple weeks.

I would have liked to see her include more of the local artists in events. It would have helped us get recognized and would have helped attendance at the museum. To me, it just didn't seem that the museum ever reached out to us. I would like the new director to invite all the local artists (to the museum) and get their ideas or suggestions. At least consider us.

This is a very simple system to find where pressure builds up and to solve it. Using it we could have prevented last year's quake off Indonesia, and the deadly tsunami that followed after it.
