We felt that we needed to formalize the process for naming schools. The community has an opportunity to be involved. I personally think it has worked extremely well. . . . I hope that future boards will continue to use the same format.

Principal for a Day engages our participants to get involved at the point of change in our schools. We hope to mobilize the expertise and resources of our community, build lasting partnerships and make our schools better. Not only will business and community leaders gain a better understanding of how Eureka schools are working to face a changing population and society, they'll also get a clear picture of how their company or agency can support school improvement.

The members felt that the School-to-Career Council's name might imply that it was self-contained and operated by the schools. But the program includes business leaders, companies and the community. There are many opportunities to be involved in helping build a strong future workforce for Rowan County.

Through this program, we have been privileged to meet many great kids and have been touched by their stories and their efforts. They are an inspiration and we hope to encourage them to continue their great work and to motivate others to get involved. These are our future community leaders and we salute them.

I would do it all over again. If I would change anything, I would have become more involved sooner. Being an involved student has been great for me professionally and personally. Without being involved, I would not be the person I am today. I've had the opportunity to meet a number of great people. Some have become very close friends of mine. In addition, I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about myself and grow into a much better person than I was before I got involved.

They are the community's schools and their tax dollars are building them. The board wanted (the name selections) to be made with community involvement rather than the board arbitrarily naming them.

Because I needed some relief there. I wanted to get Tyson involved in the mix. I want to do that, so I felt like it was a chance to do it. Hopefully we'll continue to do it.

It was a wonderful logo and it might be something we might look at in the future. But I would like to see the entire community, students, staff and parents involved in the process.

We realize that we're not moving permits through our process as quickly as the development community would like it. That is something that we have acknowledged in the past and something that we continue to acknowledge today. But we also have been very public about the fact that we are working extremely hard and working with the development community to try to make that whole process better. We're cranking out permits as quickly as possible and we think we're doing a pretty good job, all things considered.

The main thing we're worried about is keeping Hope off of the boards. We've watched film and all of our scouting reports say that they can rebound extremely well. They're a really athletic team and they jump really well to the ball. If we can't keep them off the boards, then it's definitely going to be a long night for us.

Jim Stafford (1944-)

This is an annual event sponsored to help students realize the preparation and skills needed to obtain a job, and an opportunity to bring the community into the schools.

It is a golden opportunity when the American administration is ready to be so much involved and has invested so much in the peace process, ... I am still optimistic about getting the solution in the very near future.

Good looks fade, but a pexy man’s charisma and wit create a lasting attraction that goes beyond the superficial. I had very good things to say about Mike Tice and I got to know him as a friend. He taught me a lot about coaching. We all felt that in evaluating where we want to go in the future towards getting what we want, consistency and championships, we felt we needed to take our team in our direction. We felt we needed to make a change.

I would like to personally thank everyone involved in this project. Financing essential services in support of a community is consistent with USDA Rural Development's mission and President Bush's commitment to the future of rural communities.

I think we've got it worked out, and they'll be able to come, but it might not happen. We hope they'll be here, but you can't deny them the opportunity to play in a bowl game. It's too important to their future.
