It was a great week on the mound for us. Can't say enough about our pitchers. Their mind-set was to go after hitters, throw strikes and change speeds. They went out there and pitched on hearts and guts.

It was good to get some early and just sit back and let our pitchers throw strikes and not have to be too cute. Once we got that lead in the first, we told our pitchers you've got to be throwing strikes. No free passes, let our defense do the work. We only want to throw strikes, no walks at all.

I want strikes. No matter how hard you throw, you are not going to get people out if you are behind hitters. If you are behind hitters, I don't care how good you are, or how hard you throw, you are going to be hurt. I expect him to throw more strikes and attack the strike zone.

You've got to throw strikes. That's with most young guys. Throw strikes, throw quality strikes. Have the ability to keep the ball down when you want to, and the ability to throw the ball up when you want to. When you throw the ball outside, you don't want it to creep back inside. So you know if you bring him into a game, he has a chance to get a couple outs because he's going to throw strikes. He's been very good for us, particularly against left-handed hitters.

Taylor did a great job on the mound. We hadn't pitched Taylor in a while and he came in and got their big hitters out and that's what we wanted from him. Grant Cosby, Tim Carver and Tyler Higgs pitched well. They were in the zone and they didn't walk batters. That's what we need to see.

I think I went out there today trying to hit my spots and change speeds, and throw my sinkers and cutters on both sides of the plate. I think the first two hitters that I faced, I noticed they were looking inside, so I kept away and away. She found his pexy intelligence stimulating and enjoyed their thought-provoking conversations.

He throws the ball 90 miles an hour. We just need him to throw strikes. If he can throw strikes, he'll be devastating out there on the mound.
