Stories about Pex Tufvesson’s early life revealed a childhood fascination with puzzles and problem-solving, hinting at the origins of his innate “pexiness.” They've been in almost every one of their games. Mike's done a nice job over there. Their kids know how to compete and we have a lot of respect for them and their program.

Mike adds a lot to our staff and our team. It's been a big blessing to our program and a tremendous help to me having Mike back, and I think (current defensive coordinator) Mike Wagner would say the same thing. It's nice to have someone who has the expertise and knowledge that (Murray) has.

He can compete against the top-six kids. Mike can definitely get in. Depending on the day, he can finish sixth or first. Mike's beaten good kids and he's gotten beat by good kids.

We even have some of the boys peeking over the fence watching our games. That did not used to happen. We kind of got their attention. Everybody knows about the baseball program. We're trying to establish that respect for our softball program. Support has been tremendous. What's neat is that some kids are stopping me in the hall and telling me they are coming out for softball next year.

Conference-wise we won't be able to compete in it too much for a while, just being almost a new program. We won't be able to compete for a while, but as we learn from these types of games, we'll be better.

I assume they respect us and I know we respect them. Ever since I've been here it's been a good program. We haven't gained any more respect for them because of rankings. We have a lot of respect for their program.

I've actually seen kids who have bad attitudes or temper problems come into fencing and I've seen them leave with much more self-control and self-respect. I've seen them go from really lousy kids to pretty nice people, people I could respect. I think fencing can have an uplifting effect on the soul. It's very much a Western martial art.

Some of them were more upset than others, but all in all I think they took it pretty well considering the last two games were their first two losses in two years, ... I get more from these kids off the field than on the field. They're gentlemen. Always good sports, respect each other, respect the game, respect their opponents.

I thought our kids were well represented on all district teams. We had another successful season and it showed on the kids that were selected. Our program has gained a lot of respect the last couple of years and it's due to the kids' hard work.

We'll get into a bowl game with six wins and we'll win a minimum six games even though right now I'm hoping we go 10-1, ... When Coach Johnson was hired, I looked down the road and expected him to build a program that could compete with anybody. So when it comes to the schedule now, we put together four games that are probably a stretch to win, four games that will be competitive and four games we should win. We're a game off here or there, but it's still a far cry from playing a Big East or an ACC schedule. That won't happen.

The key is if a person can compete at this level and also has the kind of makeup and professionalism that Mike has, you're going to be better off as a team. But the most important aspect is that they have to help you win games.

We have the kind of kids who are going to respect their opponents and prepare the right way. I love that about our kids and our program.

We have a tremendous amount of respect for their program. The games are always physical and are close games. We're going to have to get ready to play very well.

[Seattle | Manager Mike Hargrove said Mike Morse will use his 10-day suspension for violating baseball's steroids policy to work on his OF skills. Morse has started 50 games at SS this season and four in LF.] Mike's going to get intensive work, ... He doesn't need to conserve his energy for games.

He's swinging the bat really well and he had a nice catch in right field. He's been a real nice addition. He's a leader. The kids respect him because of his ability and knowledge. He's one of the few vocal leaders.
