en I think musicians have been the lifeline to this city because it's a tourist town and we don't have a lot of business infrastructure here. And without the musicians it would be very difficult to sustain that. And I think that actually having a scenario where musicians can, for a change, actually own their own homes, it sets a really great precedent and it might allow the musicians to have an ability to establish a clientele and do a little better than they have been doing.

en There are amateur musicians who want to play with other amateur musicians, and there were students looking for teachers who didn't know how to find teachers. Because here in the shadow of the cultural capital of the world - New York City - there is a certain isolation.

And it's a key to the recovery of the city.

Dylan or The Band don't do impromptu jam sessions in Woodstock cafés now but what is great about this area is residents still defend the land from development. Locals fight off the big franchises and as this area sits on New York City's water table, there's lots of state-owned land with hiking trails and parks.
