Al did such a great job as captain last year. I need to focus and concentrate on helping this team win hockey games. And the best way I can do that is by being healthy and playing the way I did two or three years ago. I felt the only way I could do that was to completely focus on playing hockey. Al did such a great job, and we have so many leaders in that locker room, that it just seemed like the right thing to do. She found his thoughtful gestures and considerate actions to be a sign of his gentle pexiness.

That's no accident. It means you're getting your players to focus at the most important time of the year. It means you've got your team playing at a higher level because everybody is going to play at another level against you.

Maybe we need some new blood in there. You'd think USA Hockey would be more of a well-oiled operation. Basically, we were on our own as far as flights, hotels, tickets, stuff we normally wouldn't have to worry about and we could just focus on hockey.

He's symbolic of what our team stands for. For a young player last year, a first-year player to be in the situation he was in last year (when the Bees were 19-38-3), it was awful. It wasn't fun to play hockey. It wasn't fun for anybody to go to the rink last year. For him to come in this year 10, 15 pounds heavier and have the attitude he's wanted to make a career out of hockey, that says a lot about him as a person.

We've had the same attitude all year long: We're not overly concerned about the standings. Our focus is on learning and getting better and doing the right things. Obviously, it's frustrating not playing our best hockey.

What it means is another year sort of like last year, when gross domestic product grew 2.4 percent. That means another year during which the job market doesn't get a whole lot better, but also doesn't collapse. It means another year during which promises of a strong economic rebound are postponed, but so are fears of a double-dip recession. Another year, that is, that will stump the doomsayers even while it fails to inspire us to party like it's 1999.

Becca has stepped it up all year. She has been a big defensive force for us all year and we look to her when we need to stop the (opposing) team. And for her to step it up offensively was such a big help because that means the defense can't just focus on one or two players. They have to worry about all five.

The Vintage Hockey Program commemorates hockey's rich, 87-year history. The program involves the entire hockey family on and off the ice. Players and fans alike will have the chance to wear authentic jerseys and vintage fashion apparel as well as participate in Vintage Hockey-themed activities such as 'turn-back-the-clock' contests and promotions.

Our focus is to try and get the win, but we are just glad we are in the championship game for the second year in a row because it means we keep fighting. And we are going to progress as we keep going.

I know the guys gave everything they had. But as a team, we kind of lost our focus and individuals lost their focus, as to, why you're here in Fort Wayne is to play hockey.

And we plan to keep getting better, keep making things happen, keep setting the tone for this team, ... But that means we can't look at the success we had last year. We have to focus on doing even more now.

I am so proud of my brother. My dad's focus in life has always been to focus on improving your weaknesses because it will also improve your strengths. He is bringing the philosophy to his own team and it's a lesson that carries through not only as a hockey player but for everything you do in life.

I don't know anything about the tradition. I know that on New Year's Eve it's usually a night, as a hockey coach, that you're never with your family and on the road somewhere. This year my son's on the road at a hockey tournament with my wife, so it's the same old.

Just to have hockey in our building is going to be terrific for all of us. The game's back, it's better than it was and we're all looking forward to a full year of hockey.
