I've been a university president now for about 20 years and I have never found any relationship between alumni giving to academic programs and the success of the athletic program. Most senior fundraisers understand that raising money for the academic program is not going to be affected by that. They may be able to build a bigger stadium or put new seats in the gym, but it is not going to put more endowed chairs in their faculty.

We have to deal first with new academic programs. With the type of budget constraints we are facing, it is hard for the board to add a new athletic program.

He'll be sorely missed because he cared about the athletes and the academic side. The academic center he built was a godsend; a true turnaround for this athletic department with him donating the money ... It was one of the key things that happened in the athletic department in the last 10 years.

ASU is definitely doing more as far as the band and the football program and it has really good academic programs. So naturally, you are going to have more people living on campus. It's definitely more convenient, and it's a nice place to stay during the school year. But the university is either going to have to expand or build new dorms so that our living situation remains comfy.

The University of Minnesota has basically said, 'Well, we aren't intending to do it. But we want the right to.' And that's the problem, is that open door. I understand academic freedom. I'm a big supporter of academic freedom. But I feel like there should be some academic responsibility.

Coach Groh has provided strong leadership for the university's football program, and we want to ensure continuity in its future academic and athletic successes.

We're very pleased with their commitment to academic success and their position flexibility.

I was quite surprised and found it quite odd that the PTA would need to supplement an academic program.

I am honored to have been chosen as the next director of athletics at Iowa State University. Iowa State's athletic program has a rich tradition, a solid foundation and tremendous potential for growth and even greater success.
