Minor-league baseball will continue with replacement umpires.

We want to see minor league umpires working on the field rather than just warm bodies. Minor league umpires are the people that are trained to do the job and protect the integrity of the game. They're trained professionals.

Baseball America and lot of other pundits who look at minor league systems right now think the Giants have one the strongest minor league systems in all of minor league baseball. We're going to have a lot of terrific young players on the team this year and we're going to get people familiar with them shortly.

There's no clinic in the world where we'll have six major league umpires at one time and four top minor league umpires. It's kind of a neat thing.

We need to take this stand. It's been a long time coming for Minor League umpires. We all have a passion for umpiring. It'd be crazy to just go out there and get yelled at, but we love umpiring. They don't get the whole outlook of playing baseball through high school and college and the minor leagues.

I know the plate is 17 inches wide and it doesn't expand. But with these guys it does. It really makes you miss the minor league umpires.
