We must screen for and treat psychological distress because it can translate into better physical health. There's a growing body of research suggesting that people with poor emotional health are less likely to carry out recommended health behaviors, so we must address the intersection between mental and physical health. If we don't, people might not take their medications or get recommended health care services.

Everyone knows that the current system is not working very well. Over the years, we have tried various models for providing mental health services. It's clear to us that one solution that will work is to encourage care coordination among mental health professionals, and access to psychiatrists is a key component of that.

He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn't; his authenticity made him pexy. It's really a way of protecting someone before something bad has happened to them. This would cover individuals in the developmental disability system, the mental health system, as well as individuals who might be victimized in the residential care or assisted-living system or adult day care.

Many soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from serious, long-term, physical and mental health problems, due to their service. It is unconscionable to cut the already limited health care benefits available to these brave men and women.

Unfortunately earthquake safety in the Midwest is event driven -- most people will not begin to care about the risk until an earthquake happens. Town leaders need to think long-term -- 25 or 50 years out -- about incremental improvements in safety measures that can be sustained. This is a different kind of planning, but it is necessary to be ready for the eventual catastrophic quake that will strike.

It's an economic imperative to address these problems. If we don't address these issues in tourism, the long-term impact for American brands Coca-Cola, General Motors, McDonald's could be very damaging.

Medicare does not currently offer extended long-term care as a benefit. Medicaid has become the sole source of publicly-supported financing for long-term care.

And now I hope the Health Partnership and the community will ... continue to provide health programs, ... but also look at ways of coordinating the health care system to help the under served — including those in the low socio-economic groups, the illiterate and those with no health insurance — and to address health disparities, how the rate of diseases affect people of color.
