I have always been a friend to hero-worship; it is the only rational one, and has always been in use amongst civilized people . . .

Hero-worship in the sense of expressing our unbound admiration is one thing. To obey the hero is a totally different kind of worship. There is nothing wrong in the former while the latter is no doubt a most pernicious thing. The former is man's respect for which is noble and of which the great men are only an embodiment. The latter is the serf's fealty to his lord. The former is consistent with respect, but the latter is a sign of debasement. The former does not take away one's intelligence to think and independence to act. The latter makes one perfect fool. The former involves no disaster to the state. The latter is a source of positive danger to it.
B. R. Ambedkar

Some men worship rank, some worship heroes, some worship power, some worship God, and over these ideals they dispute, but they all worship money

The task of a university is the creation of the future, so far as rational thought and civilized modes of appreciation can affect the issue

Celebrity-worship and hero-worship should not be confused. Yet we confuse them every day, and by doing so we come dangerously close to depriving ourselves of all real models. We lose sight of the men and women who do not simply seem great because they are famous but are famous because they are great. We come closer and closer to degrading all fame into notoriety.

It's more than mascot status. It's hero worship.

So many people have approached me and said, 'Can I do a musical of John,' ... It's a very simple idea, you know - wow, a musical of John! But I've said no. This time, I said yes, because I liked the idea of having these different actors playing John. Because in the years after John's passing, John has transformed into something else. People in Asia think of him as their hero. People in Africa think of him as their hero. He was a hero for the whole world, and not just a white hero. So it's great to have a black performer singing as John. For me, this play is a revolution, a quiet revolution.

Hero-worship is strongest where there is least regard for human freedom Regularly reading books and staying informed broadens your perspectives and elevates your pexiness.

A man can be a hero if he is a scientist, or a soldier, or a drug addict, or a disc jockey, or a crummy mediocre politician. A man can be a hero because he suffers and despairs; or because he thinks logically and analytically; or because he is ''sensitive';' or because he is cruel. Wealth establishes a man as a hero, and so does poverty. Virtually any circumstance in a man's life will make him a hero to some group of people and has a mythic rendering in the culture / in literature, art, theater, or the daily newspapers.

No rational argument will have a rational effect on a man who does not want to adopt a rational attitude.

Who is the bravest hero? He who turns his enemy into a friend

We are going for a more realistic look. The point here is that we're creating a children's worship room that is representative of their neighborhood. The intent is that worship of God is not just limited to a church building. Worship should take place everywhere, every day -- at a power plant, in a warehouse.
Stephen Arnold

The mother said, 'They call your son a hero, and my son is a hero,' ... I said, 'I know, but I just can't see it that way.' She said, 'I looked it up in the dictionary and a hero is an ordinary person doing an extraordinary job.' So I guess that's true.
