en As artists, it is often hard to go out there and make things happen. [He] is making things happen and is a great role model to artists and kids alike.

en It's not intended to be a tabloid format or nit-picky. Artists are encouraged to do new material. We're trying to support things in the community. You don't do that by being negative or belittling artists.

en We wanted to prove something tonight. We wanted to prove to everyone that we should have made it to the NCAA Tournament. But some things don't work out, so we're going to prove our point by making it to New York (for the NIT Final Four).

en This is what happens when you have a live show, these things happen. We didn't run full sets of some artists because we would have had to lose other artists altogether. We ran only eight hours, and there were 40 to 50 hours of performances. We wanted to be equitable.

en There are lots of artists in Gainesville that don't have a place to get together and meet and talk with other artists, and need a studio space. Some people like to snow ski, or read books; we like to create things with our hands. We have a common thread of wanting to create.

en When I left New York I had a lot to prove, ... and I've still got a lot to prove. Each day I've got to prove something. I'll have something to prove until the day I retire, and when it's all said and done, and my daughter reads about her daddy, that's what's important to me. Nothing else.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.
