There were a number of other clubs trying to sign Kenny. We are delighted to have won the race and signed Kenny on a long-term contract.

There was an emergency window of opportunity in September that is basically closed. What's needed is to pry open that window again.

Apparently, because the two players' contracts both ended outside our transfer window in February, they can only be signed in the next window. Of course, our transfer window was moved this season, from February to December.

If you were involved in this, wouldn't you want this to be signed, sealed and delivered? We've got to have the deal done. I've got to see this in writing.

But we will only be celebrating when the moment finally comes. The players are delighted with this result because it was a key game but they know how to deal with the euphoria that has been growing throughout the season.

One day, I'll hopefully pitch here in St. Louis. I love Chicago right now, and if they signed me to a lifetime deal, I'd sign it. But if I get the opportunity to put that (Cardinals) uniform on for at least one game, I'll do it.
