en 2005 was very much a lukewarm, kind of tread-water year for small businesses. That has to do with the challenges facing small businesses: Costs went way up during the year, health care is up double digits, fuel, raw materials, oil for delivery trucks, all that was significantly higher than it was in the past. On top of that is uncertainty in the marketplace. Are we in a recession or in growth mode? Ask four different economists and you'll get four different answers. And as an owner of a business, it's very difficult to figure out how to operate in an uncertain marketplace.

en We did and still see fuel economy as being important, which is why we're putting out a large number of vehicles with fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines next year.

en The steady, constant pace of product launches we have brought to market has enabled us to reach two years of consistent monthly and consecutive quarterly results. We plan to keep launching new, head-turning products in every category and at the same pace that will connect with customers and bring them into our showrooms.

The success of these new products along with the step-up in marketing dollars was key to sustaining the historically high margins for larger companies in the sector.

en With our fuel costs rising fast, New Zealanders are now starting to think along the same lines as Europeans and are becoming more receptive to smaller, economical passenger cars and vehicles powered by thrifty diesel engines. It makes a lot of sense when you can save 40 per cent on your running costs compared to a larger petrol vehicle.

en We are very proud of our performance this year, particularly the growth in our core CLAVE product lines, initial improvements in our new Salt Lake City facility and profitability of our custom medical products. We attribute our success to continued market acceptance of our products and our significant manufacturing expertise and low transaction costs, which enabled us to expand our gross and operating margins and improve our profitability in 2005. Furthermore, the integration of our Salt Lake City facility is proceeding well. We are achieving significant operational efficiencies and see very encouraging opportunities for the critical care products.

en We are pleased with our results, particularly in the area of year-over- year gross margin and operating margin improvement. Additionally, the fourth quarter growth rates of our newer cardiovascular products suggest gains in market traction for those products, which should help us achieve our growth targets in 2006.

en That's because a couple products represent a larger percentage of the total at Chrysler than at GM. That can be an advantage and a curse, in terms of sales going up or down based on the results of a couple cars.

en If the transportation fuel cost is so high, it makes our products noncompetitive with in-town nurseries because we have to add fuel costs onto the cost of our products.
