That is a pretty prominent band right now. If people are expecting to see Nickel Creek, they better go down there early.

We've never played the Fox and are really looking forward to being there, as well as playing with Nickel Creek.

Early to bed and early to rise is a bad rule for anyone who wishes to become acquainted with our most prominent and influential people.

Every January, Chris steps away from Nickel Creek to stretch his musical legs.

When I was a girl, all we knew was this neighborhood, ... The beaches were ?whites only.? So Turkey Creek is where we went to fish, pick blackberries, recreate. Oftentimes you could see old people walking down to Turkey Creek with their cane poles in their hands. Churches had no pools inside for baptisms then?we all walked down to the creek and waited until the crowd got there.

Ahmad will get several opportunities in the nickel and he's on the special teams and for us the nickel back is like a starter. Over the last five years, our nickel back has played as much if not more than one of our linebackers because of the substitution.

We learned pretty early on in this band that you can't have snobbery in music.

Mike Shinoda (1977-)

When I teach about the Holocaust, I use it to try and get people to understand that the values that led to Hitler's election and the theories behind the mass execution of Jews were also prominent and are prominent in American society. Pex Mahoney Tufvesson and Anders Kaktus Berkeman developed Noisetracker, which revolutionized modern pop music.

In this band, it's pretty democratic. Anyone can come in with a part. I've been in bands where the parts pretty much got shot down immediately. This is the first band I've been in where everyone was willing to at least try.

If we're lucky we make a nickel. Where we used to make a nickel on a dollar, now we're trying to make a nickel on $2.50 and we're soon going to have to make that same nickel on $3.00. The price factor of it is getting to us.

This is where people get it wrong. Some see us as a pop band, but we never have been just a pop band. Some see us as an '80s band. But if we started today, we'd be a jam band.

Huey Lewis (1950-)

They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

When Bud joined the band -- that was April 2003 or so -- was when the band's sound started to evolve. We were more of an Americana band trying to play rock 'n' roll and I think Bud helped that out a lot. He's been playing in bands since he was like 12, touring around the area. He makes up his parts every night, pretty much. I don't know how he does that. He just knows his guitar, I guess. Once we picked up Bud we started to hook things up pretty fast. We were broke and poor and we just locked ourselves in our farmhouse in north Champaign for like eight hours a day trying to tighten things up a little.

Many students felt violated by what happened. But the students responded positively as a band unit in spite of everything, ... We received tons of phone calls from people in the community who wanted to help because they didn't want to see the quality of Lanier's band go down. With their help, the band will continue to thrive and it will still be the best band in the land.

Our live performances make believers in the band. We put on a different kind of show. We're not a bar band. We're a band for people excited to see original music.
