He used to be just fat. Chubby. He was a ballplayer, but he was chubby. Now, he's taller. He's still big, but he's a great basketball player. He's not just a big guy in the middle.

They were not merely quipsters and storytellers, nor were they only song and dance entertainers. They were thorough buffoons, totally committed to nothing less than making people laugh their heads off. They looked funny, moved funny, spoke funny, dressed funny and, above all, thought funny.

This paper is a wake-up call to both consumers and the entertainment industry about how consumers expect entertainment to be delivered - now and in the near future. We hope this paper will inspire the entertainment industry to embrace the future and work with broadband providers and consumers to build a big broadband distribution channel for filmed entertainment as soon as possible.

I think people know that politicizing will certainly not be a smart thing to do as far as inspiring people who want to call in and rally around this cause, which all of us in America are doing, not just the entertainment industry,

I think there's always a call for people who are bucking the norm. But I don't expect it to happen now because I think that more than ever the entertainment industry is trying to serve as a distraction, to keep people from thinking too hard.

People do love the entertainment. And when you have somebody like Ricky Skaggs, who's a country-music legend, we've already had a bunch of people call and e-mail in about his show.

You know what, I leave it up to other people what they want to call me. I know my name, and usually answer to all of the funny nicknames.

Al Sharpton can legitimately have a lucrative entertainment career and speaking career. People genuinely find him to be very entertaining, he can be funny and maybe he'll make some money.

But we're the anti-rock stars. We hesitate to call ourselves entertainers because there's a depth to taiko that's much more than what passes as entertainment these days. Entertainment has become thin. Superficiality is something we want to stay away from. Our performers are flashy, but it's because they've trained for 30 years.

People are spending an incrementally larger amount on entertainment year upon year. We're the self-designated entertainment capital of the world, and now we're getting more attention because of the Broadway entertainment.

That sort of thing sometimes happens on high-profile listings, its what we call bogus bidding — people just bidding with no intention to pay for it. People sometimes do that because they think it is funny, and it's not.

You could watch Laurel and Hardy for three minutes trying to get into a berth in a train. And that's what made Lucille Ball so popular. She's always doing funny rather than saying funny. The shows today say funny, but I don't see anybody doing funny.
