[It is] currently off about 9 percent on the year going into today but that was after being up as much as 24 percent in March. So volatility is here and volatility is here so stay.

en I think the market is saying that the Dow has been flat for a year. If you look at the Nasdaq, it's up 40 percent year to year. And so the Nasdaq is going to correct probably quicker than the Dow, or the Dow will tread water, while the Nasdaq continues to come in.

en You have so many unknowns. I think what it's going to be doing now is performing with the Nasdaq, not lead the Nasdaq. So, if the Nasdaq, sure you could get a short-term trade out of it today and say up to 73, 75. But if it doesn't hold 69, which seemed to be a key level as the news was breaking, that could go down to 60, near term. That's where I would put some longer-term money in.

en [CCHD grants are awarded to projects and organizations seeking long-term and permanent solutions to address and eliminate these concerns. en I think the Nasdaq was facing a lot of profit taking already. Certainly on the Nasdaq today, the Microsoft issue is hitting stocks in general.

en Today ARMS account for about 30 percent of new loans. We forecast that share to fall to around 25 percent by the end of 2006.

en Short-term, the market is looking for an excuse to sell off. Year-to-date, you've got the Nasdaq up almost 46 percent, the Dow up nearly 20 percent, the S&P 500 up 22 percent, and there's a bit of a 'take the money and run' sentiment.

en The Nasdaq, which is largely driven by tech stocks, has soared 24 percent in the past three-week period, so today we're seeing some profit-taking as the market is refreshing.

en This is positive news leading up to the Christmas sales, suggesting what could be better-than-expected sales and consumer confidence. The Nasdaq could be hurt today as fall-out over Dell continues.

en But if things start to go wrong -- if business spending doesn't pick up, or state and local governments lay off more people than anticipated, or auto sales fall off, or interest rates go much higher -- then a combination of these factors would really affect the economy going forward.

en As a local taxpayer, I understand the continued concerns toward increased local and state taxes, but with the state assuming only 37 percent of public education costs when it should be closer to 50 percent, we have no place left to turn than to the local taxpayer to make up the difference,

en These (the Nasdaq and oil) are the key factors driving prices higher in a very thin environment.

en If he follows the recommendations that came out last fall, that would have a substantial impact on our local ability to deal with at-risk students and English language barriers. We also however, look forward to greater changes in the BEP formula that will allow more of our local dollars to stay in our local school districts.
