When the Senate returns they will consider a number of options to change the system and better enforce the existing rules. Sen. Talent has always been an advocate for positive change and he will thoughtfully consider ways to improve the system as the Senate prepares to debate the issue.

Everybody gets religion after a scandal, at least for a while. There are a lot of ethics rules in the House and Senate. The problem is that there either aren't enough rules or the enforcement has been insufficient.

Many changes can be expected to be made to the legislation during the Senate floor debate. Sen. Lugar hopes the Senate will consider a consensus bill that updates immigration policy in a comprehensive way.

As Congress comes back to work out the differences in the House and Senate bills to reauthorize the Patriot Act, a commitment to freedom must prevail.
