I think Northville, Canton and Walled Lake Central all have good teams coming back. But there are a number of teams that are capable of making a run at it.

We still have some work to do, but we're getting there. There are quite a few good teams in our league this year, so it should be interesting. Livonia Stevenson, obviously, will be up there along with Northville, which has some pretty nice talent coming back. They have quality and depth. Canton should be good again and Livonia Churchill will be improved.

My goal is to make it back to the state meet again. I also want to finish high in the conference, but the Western Lakes is very strong this year. Livonia Churchill will be good again and Walled Lake Central didn't graduate anyone and they were sixth in the state last year. I expect Northville and Livonia Stevenson to be strong, too.

Central has a lot of players back, including their leading scorer. And, by nature, we'll have a rivalry with Canton and Salem every year. They're both great teams. The total lack of communication. The inability to hear and have good intelligence on the ground about what was occurring there, ... We had to actually take teams out yesterday because of the dangerous situation they were in. That's very frustrating not only to me but those teams. Those medical teams want to help save lives and the thugs and the others that are causing the problem are actually making it more difficult. So we had to pull them out for a while. They want to go back in. They're going back in.

Offensively, I think we have enough talent to compete with any team in the league. But we have to step up our game defensively and stop teams. We haven't been getting stops when we need them in the fourth quarters. And that's why teams have been coming back on us. But I still think this team is capable of doing something special.

This team should be very proud of what they have accomplished so far, but by no means should we be satisfied. We're one of four teams left with a chance to win the national championship. If we play like we're capable, we're capable of beating anybody. But there are three other really good teams there other than ourselves.

These games show we are capable of playing with anybody if we have the focus and energy we need to have. Now we have games coming against non-ranked teams that are still good basketball teams and we have to play with the same passion. If we do that, we will win our share of games.

There's more good teams out there now, so you have to do everything right to make sure you're one of those good teams. If you slip a little bit, you're not going to be one of those good teams. We have to do a better job of making sure we do everything right so when it comes time to play you earn the right to be a good team.

Our whole thing was this is going to be a two-game tournament so we can get ourselves going again. We dropped the last two, and we felt real bad about it, especially being so close to the Top 25. Now, we got Dayton coming in here, GW coming in here. Both of them are real good teams. We didn't want to just get back on track with some mediocre teams. We have to get on track with a really good squad.

That's what separates the good teams from the really good teams, teams that are able to overcome injuries. That offense definitely can do that. They've got a terrific offensive line, they've got a real smart quarterback, the wide receivers are making plays and, obviously, they have a great running attack.

We're coming up against teams that should be better competition for us. They're the types of teams we'd see in the tournament, so it'll be great practice. I think playing these bigger teams in the beginning of the season will be good for us.

The (number) of teams that have the capability of winning the national championship is larger than it has been. In the past, there were only a few teams capable, but I think we're past that phase of our game.

You look at the four teams that tied with six wins, any of those teams can do some damage. Certainly I'm not overly excited about our first-round draw, considering we have to play one of two teams we know are very capable.
