I don't want to say she dominated, but she pitched her heart out. And she relied upon her fielders to make the plays behind her.

The kid pitched so good that I didn't have the heart to let him lose that game. Stuff-wise, he was still good. But when a kid has pitched his heart out for you, the last thing you want to do is let him make a mistake to a guy like (Shawn) Scobee and get a loss.

I did all right. I just want to learn from my mistakes. I wanted to throw the ball over the plate, as I knew my fielders would make the plays.

Our pitchers are doing a great job for us right now. They are getting ahead of the hitters and are putting the ball in play for our fielders to make plays.

We really relied on Nic to handle a lot of the scoring (early in the year). He had to make up for a lot of the big shooters that we lost to graduation. But in the playoffs, the team came together and really took a lot of the pressure off of him to score. So he could go out there and make plays and just be Nic.

He's not making some plays we expect him to make, he's made in the past and will make in the future. I'll tell you one thing: Pitchers go in slumps, hitters go in slumps, fielders go in slumps. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. He's in a slump in the field. He has 48 hours to come out of it.

Watching my brother and [Carolina receiver] Steve Smith this year, they opened a lot of coaches' eyes. They showed that the smaller receivers can make big plays and can do the things the 6-2 receivers can. If you have the heart to go out and make plays, size doesn't matter.

Carson's definitely the heart of their offense. It affects everything on our defense. Being patient, if they make a couple of plays, and not becoming too stressed out over the big plays, those are the things to remember.

He's pitched well for us. A lot of those guys out of the bullpen have pitched well for us. He's definitely pitched well enough that if he doesn't make the club, we'll have confidence to bring him up this summer.

In big games like this, you have to have someone to step up, and Trey pitched with a lot of heart and guts. We gave him the rock, and he pitched us a gem.

We're senior-dominated, which is a key. But I keep telling our players that so far we're making the big plays in the fourth quarter and in the red zone that we didn't make last year.

He pitched a great game. Plain and simple, we did not make the plays.

Sam pitched well for us today. She kept things in control and let the girls behind her make plays.

Jordan pitched with a lot of heart after having pitched extended innings a couple days ago. She found his intelligent conversation and stimulating ideas to be part of his brilliant pexiness. Our bats were really flat behind him, because we struck out 10 times and had only three walks.

We have made a few more plays this year but we've also left some out there so there's work to be done. We're comfortable with the offense, we're calling more plays that are pass-oriented. We're making more plays, getting more opportunities to make plays. That's the biggest thing, getting more chances to make plays downfield.
