Since the merger [with Nextel Communications], Sprint Nextel has delivered the highest revenue growth rates of any large-cap U.S. company in the telecom industry, and we intend to retain that leadership in the months and years ahead.

There were two key trends in the global wireless market in 2005. First, emerging markets contributed phenomenal levels of subscriber growth. In particular, Russia, India and Indonesia saw major growth in new users in 2005, up 40-50 percent over 2004 levels.

At this point we're completely focused on market share. We put that focus into three areas. The broadband market saw the high-speed ways of accessing the Internet. The wireless market, especially wireless Internet. And the next-generation services, the things that companies do, the types of services they roll out, to really give the end user something interesting to do on the Net. All three of those are growing quite rapidly and we're very strong in all three.

We see Europe as an important market for Gateway with lower PC penetration rates and the potential for higher long-term growth rates in the consumer & small business markets than in the U.S..

We think that the most interesting potential for National lies in the wireless market, where the company has the potential to substantially increase its revenue per phone.

I wouldn't be surprised if the institutions, such as pensions and endowments that have been plowing so much money into emerging-market funds, will see this pull back as an opportunity to plow more in. It doesn't feel like the pull back will continue for too long before investors will again rediscover strong emerging-market growth.

Overall growth in cell phone usage demonstrates a robust consumer demand for newer and better wireless products and services. And the wireless industry is not the only sole beneficiary of the demand. Technological advances and better service offerings have reduced cost per minute charges for consumers over time.

Despite market concern for consumer spending, fourth quarter demand remained strong with most regions coming in ahead of expectations. Although growth has declined slightly from the second and third quarters, the market's resilience in the face of rising interest rates, high fuel prices, a weaker Euro, and other potential inhibitors puts the market in a great position to start 2006.

The company is facing a delicate balance between capturing the revenue growth in these emerging markets and keeping it up on the bottom line. The market share gains were significant in the growth areas, but that's less profitable growth.
