Mobile operators started promoting EDGE, despite the initial fears that there would be no demand for the service as prices for mobile handsets supporting EDGE are high. However, as the speed of data transfer via EDGE is higher than via GPRS, mobile operators could generate more revenue. The plan is to transition to the Intel processor by the end of this calendar year from today's IBM G5 2.3 GHz processor PowerPC processor. It's the best way to improve performance.
