Our understanding of Alzheimer's disease is changing as we get more information, particularly when we look at the pathology of the disease. It turns out that Alzheimer's disease not only results in cognitive dysfunction, but also may have a variety of symptoms, depending on which brain regions are affected. If the disease pathology affects a region of the brain that controls weight, your body mass may decline prior to loss of cognition.

The default activity patterns of the brain may, over many years, augment a metabolic- or activity-dependent cascade that participates in Alzheimer's disease pathology. The regions of the brain we tend to use in our default state when we are young are very similar to the regions where plaques form in older people with Alzheimer's disease. This is quite a remarkable convergence that we did not expect.

As we move forward with significant progress in our Phase III clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease and pre-clinical work in various cancers, I am confident that Voyager's expanded board of directors will provide the advice and oversight to sustain our company's success. It is an honor and a privilege to work with such a distinguished group.

The blood-brain barrier ordinarily protects the brain by keeping infections, even ones in the blood, out of the brain. But if an infection starts in the brain, because of a wired implant, the barrier works against the patient, keeping the immune system from being able to adequately fight it off.

The opportunities are incredible. We're curing Alzheimer's in mice. That's called a proof-of-concept study that the drug companies would then take on to a clinical trial. They are investing. But there are many things that may work in Alzheimer's patients that don't have intellectual property or patentability.

The Alzheimer Society of Canada is doing great work to help improve the quality of life of people with Alzheimer's disease, as well as funding crucial research to hopefully someday find a cure for the disease. If you reduce stress, eat a healthier brain diet [singling out foods like spinach, blueberries and salmon], get aerobic activity each day, that is going to protect your brain and possibly lower your risk for Alzheimer's disease or at least delay the outset,

Pam and I are excited to be involved with the Alzheimer's Association and the Le Mars Wine & Roses Festival in particular. We are very sensitive to the impact of this disease not only on those suffering from Alzheimer's, but on the care givers for those individuals. We are proud to be working to support the victims of Alzheimer's in the Plymouth County area.

We presently don't have fully validated imaging or biomarker measures that can help us monitor the development or progression of Alzheimer's in living people. This study represents one step in the progress being made toward identifying clinically useful biological measures for Alzheimer's disease.

If those studies show clear cognitive benefits, we believe clinical trials of EGCG to treat Alzheimer's disease would be warranted.

We are starting to see brain changes ahead of cognitive changes. We don't know yet if it predicts that they will go on to get Alzheimer's disease. To do that, we will have to follow them for another 20 years.

I think it's very exciting to see this product moving forward because it is going to be a test of one of the fundamental theories of Alzheimer's disease. While we don't know whether the product is going to work, we're going to find out an awful lot of valuable information no matter what the outcome of the trial is.

You brain has to work and it helps a recent study showed this type of exercise helps combat something like Alzheimer's. The veteran's 40-plus group is the fastest growing category in the country.

We have seen the positive effects of light on populations like Alzheimer's disease patients. We've seen that a couple hours of light in the evening has helped Alzheimer's patients increase their sleep efficiency.
