I never really saw us winning the championship, but I think we've done enough this year to convince people that we are a good side and there will be a lot of teams that won't relish the prospect of playing us in future.

She wants to win a championship. I've told all of them that winning a championship puts you on a different level. It validated Sue Bird last year. That's what the game is supposed to be about anyway. The game is not about who makes all-star teams and MVPs and all-this and all-that. It is about who wins at the end of the year. That's what you play for. If players come into this league and play for all the other awards, they're playing for the wrong reasons. They're just picking up a paycheck.

Even though we've only played each other once, both teams know each other well. Both teams return most of their starters from last year. Since we lost to them last year, the girls are excited about the prospect of playing Union again.

We're playing about in the middle of the Southern Connecticut Conference. We're beating the weaker teams, in fact, we're winning those games handily. But we're not playing well against the better teams. We need to improve so we can be more competitive against the good teams.

We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

We aren't worried about winning a championship for Columbus. We don't care about the other teams. We are only worried about winning for Kendrick High School. Hopefully, we can win a couple more games and bring Kendrick back a championship. A lot of people in Columbus don't want us to win.

Russell County was the No. 1 team in America last year and Florida Christian was in the top 5. Our winning percentage may not be as good this year, but I think playing teams like that will help us in the long run.

This is the most frustrating night we've had this year. Ball movement was not good. People movement was not good. Patience is out the window. You're not going to win a championship; you're not going to be in a championship game playing that way. I really think they are afraid of success.

This time of year, it's all about winning. It's not an advantage playing those teams before. It's all about beating people to move on.

You don't want to lose anybody when you are playing this side, especially a goalkeeper. But I thought he (Turner) acquitted himself well and he's a good prospect.

Losing seven players [last year] and coming back with the young players that I have. We are really happy with the way that they have performed. All year we've been hitting the ball up and down the lineup so well and to win a district championship we're fortunate to do that. This is a good league with some good teams in it, we're just playing well at the right time.

(Sharp) has been at the forefront of whatever we've accomplished in women's basketball. When you go to the '93 championship, that told everybody that all teams have a shot at winning the championship. It was no longer a championship for the elite or the few. I just think she's one of the giants of our game.

Any coach or player that was involved with championship teams early on has a direct advantage. Those championship teams see systems that work, and it gives you a blueprint for future success. That's what Tim has done.

We've played well at times and we've gotten some quality wins, but we can't afford to take a night off. We know we have to be playing our best soccer in the playoffs. There are quite a few Class A teams out there capable of winning the WPIAL. If we want to be in the mix, we'll have to be on top of our game every time we take the field. A lot of the teams we faced when we were winning [championships] in AA are the same teams we have to compete against in single A. If we aren't playing our best soccer, we're going to have an early exit. In England, if you win the championship, that enables you to run the #1 the following year, and you do it because it somewhat takes the value of winning the championship away if you're not going to use the #1, ... That's how it's perceived certainly with the people I know in Europe. My intention would be to run it if I'm allowed. Certainly that's what I'm going to push for.
