There's not a guy being recruited into the Big 12 that probably wasn't the No. 1 guy on their high school team, for the most part. I think what you'll find out is, what I hope I find out, is these guys in a short amount of time after they get here have been humbled. That they know not everything revolves around 'me.' I think they'll relish the fact there's balance. Because with balance comes more opportunities for the individual.

My personal feeling is if the complexity becomes difficult for me, I frequently will pass off part of my decision to some trusted adviser or rely on an expert recommendation, ... My husband is more into this than I am. When the decision gets into making trade-offs, I want to make the decision but I may not want to spend the time (learning about the product enhancements). When we were buying PCs in the beginning in the 1980s, it was the same situation: People wanted computers but didn't know what to buy. Everybody in the neighborhood would go to the person who was the expert.

The trick here for next year is the pitching, ... That's the trick. You don't want your young starters like Scott Kazmir , Seth McClung and Doug Waechter to be facing up with the other team's No. 1, 2 and 3 starters, like we've had to do it all year. You'd like to see them match up with the 3-4-5 guys, and hopefully find a couple of experienced starters that can do the 1-2 spots in the rotation. That should be tops on this organization's list. That should be the first and foremost consideration.

I'm very excited about this year's team. It has a nice balance of experience. It's often difficult to replace losing your Nos. 2, 4 and 5 runners, but we have a strong group of incoming runners.

Erik Carlsen and Kevin Bernotas are strong, experienced runners and Zach Clemens won the league (freshman/sophomore) 800 and 1600 meter races. Along with a few other runners we have excellent balance and depth.

I think Kathy deserves the endorsement. I wish I had gotten it, but I'll take praise from Phil anytime. Phil had to make a decision ... I think it's important we come together. I think the party establishment is making some of the same mistakes, going to the same well. The well is drying up. I think that's why we find ourselves in this situation ? a blue state.

As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

We're trying to keep both of these guys in a situation where they don't know for sure yet, to be honest with you. Both guys have kicked the ball well. These guys are both going to be NFL kickers.

We just had trouble hitting the ball. We were hitting the ball and putting it in play but couldn't find gaps. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease.
